Bio of Sam Holmes Jr.
Sam Holmes Jr. is a native of Eudora Arkansas. He is
the fifth born of six children in the family of Sam Sr. and Lorine (Mae) Holmes.
The record shows that he initially joined Zion Chapel Baptist Church in Eudora,
Arkansas in 1973 and was baptized on his 13th birthday (1974) by Rev. E. D.
Handie.
He received his early education in his hometown, and graduated from Eudora High
School in 1979. Like many young men he participated in several sports. Along the
way he discovered his six-foot six-inch frame gave him a distinct advantage on
the basketball court. He had scholarship offers from Southern Methodist
University, Baylor University, the University of Arkansas at Conway and others.
He accepted a basketball scholarship to Attended Southern Arkansas University T.
B. in East Camden, Arkansas. Mainly, because the location allowed him to be
close to home. In the fall of 1979, he arrived at SAU with the nickname of
"Magic". He met and made many good friends as well as some lifetime memories
during his college years.
In 1985 Sam Holmes Jr. relocated to the Dallas Metro area. He united with the
Keller Springs Baptist Church. It was through his association with the church he
met and married his lovely wife Janice Lynette Morrison-Holmes in 1987. To date,
God has blessed them with three wonderful children – Zachary Elijah Holmes,
Javonna Lynette Holmes & Solomon Holmes.
The Lord called him to preach on January 8th 1989. In August of the same year he
enrolled at the Southern Bible Institute at Dallas, Texas. He was licensed for
the ministry in December 1991 and ordained by Rev. Willie Jacobs, (his father in
the ministry) in July 1995. He graduated from Southern Bible Institute in 1997.
He received his certificate of Evangelism from Dr. James Kennedy, Coral Ridge,
Florida.
Pastor Holmes was called to Paradise Baptist Church in August 1999. Prior to his
coming to Paradise he served as Pastor/Teacher of Community Baptist Church at
Sherman, Texas, where he organized the Juanita Kelly Memorial Christian Academy
which is a member of the Association of Christian School International. He also
served as Assistant Pastor of Community Bible Church, Plano, Texas and Minister
of Evangelism at Keller Springs Baptist Church, Carrollton, Texas.
The powerful preaching and teaching of Pastor Holmes in Tulsa, Oklahoma has not
gone unnoticed. In his short time as Pastor, more than one hundred persons have
joined or rejoined Paradise. He will take no credit for this or any other
"achievements". He says simply, he plants the seed and God gives the increase –
to God be the Glory for the things He has done.
Somebody has said opinions are ideas that men hold. Convictions are ideals that
hold men. Pastor Holmes believes he is on solid ground when he proclaims, as he
does often, "It just doesn’t get any better than Paradise".

Our First Lady, Janice
Morrison Holmes, was born and reared in Denison Texas, the fourth child to
Roscoe and Gertrude Morrison. Sis. Holmes is a 1982 graduate of Denison Senior
High School. She is also a certified evangelism trainer through Dr. James
Kennedy Evangelism Explosion. Certified in the planting a productive seed
ministry. Janice attended the Dallas Theological Seminary lay ministry program
and received a certificate of completion. Continuing her education, she attended
Southern Bible Institute in Dallas Texas.
Because of passion and love for children, Sis. Holmes became a Certificate
Child-Care Worker for the State of Oklahoma and increased her knowledge at
Stratford Career Institute, receiving a diploma in Psychology/social work. As a
Direct Care Specialist II, she is allowed to manifest her love by sharing
herself and education at The Laura Dester Shelter for Abused, Misused, and
Unloved Children. Our lovely First lady is the mother of three unique creative
and crafty children; Zachary Elijah; JaVonna Lynette; and Solomon Holmes. Last
but far from least she is the wife to Sam Holmes Jr. for 18 years; he is the
senior pastor of the Paradise Baptist Church, which she states is “known as the
best church this side of the rapture!”
